The Maine
Coon is a big domesticated cat breed. These magnificent tamed felines have
long, beautiful hair that surrounds their faces in the same way as a huge cat's
mane does (although they're considerably less violent). They may grow to be
four feet long in addition to their magnificent coats, making them the monarch
(or queen) of your household. It has a unique physical appearance as well as
significant hunting abilities. It is one of North America's oldest natural
breeds endemic to the US state of Maine where it is the official state cat.
If you've
ever wanted a lion as a pet, you should think about adopting a Maine Coon cat
instead. The Maine Coon is a huge, social cat, earning it the moniker
"gentle giant." It has a long bushy tail and a pronounced ruff around
its chest. It also has a powerful bone structure, rectangular body form, an
uneven two-layered coat with longer guard hairs over a silky satin undercoat,
and a rectangle body form. The colors of the breed vary greatly with only lilac
and chocolate being prohibited in lineage. Reputed for its intelligence and
playful, gentle personality, the Maine Coon is often cited as having
"dog-like" characteristics.
From kittens to full-grown felines,
photographer Robert Sijka
took notice of this majestic breed and chose to capture their big cat feelings
in striking portraiture that show their developing beauty.
Sijka has two hobbies in life:
photography and Maine Coon cats, which should come as no surprise. The two,
fortunately, go hand in hand and are the outcome of his family's 14-year
relocation to China. “After a while,” he continues, “We started to miss the
company of animals because they have always been in our lives.” My wife
Izabella and I fell in love with Maine Coons and launched a breeding program
eight years ago.”
Sijka realized they had to share the
precious critters with the world when the first litter of kittens was born.
"I believe my photographic adventure began at this point." He
reflected, “I made the decision that my photographs have to be unique, just
like Maine Coons. I came up with my present approach after thousands of images
and get a lot of joy dealing with these incredible animals.”
Photographing any animal is difficult,
but cats add an added layer of difficulty since they won't sit still! Sijka
doesn't have a secret formula for producing charming photographs; instead, he
relies on two tried-and-true methods: a lot of practice and a lot of patience.
He has lots of opportunities to do so especially now that he and his wife own
OtiCami a cattery that homes 20 Maine Coon cats and kittens.
In his online business, the Felis Gallery, Sijka sells his work as prints, phone covers, blankets, and more.
