Restaurant owner Kevin Scheunemann defended the placard, explaining that it was erected almost four years ago to transparently showcase his and the staff's commitment to serving both God and the nation. Scheunemann stated that he displayed the sign after a customer raised concerns about Christian music being played in the restaurant. Since its installation, the sign has not sparked any additional controversies.

The sign garnered increased attention recently when a tourist from Oregon posted a photo of it on Facebook, expressing concerns about its perceived exclusivity. The initial post received significant engagement before being removed.

While some individuals endorse the message displayed on the sign, others have expressed offense towards the individual who shared the image and voiced their opinions. Residents of the small village of Kewaskum appear to interpret the sign as the owner's personal statement of beliefs and accept it as such. Dairy Queen's official statement clarifies that Scheunemann's approach is not endorsed by the company, emphasizing that the sign merely reflects the proprietor's personal beliefs. The company asserts that all franchisees and staff members are obligated to treat customers with respect and decency, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
