People pass by ordinary objects on the
street daily without noticing them, that’s why this street artist decided to
transform them and give these objects the attention they deserve.
A parking
lot is more than just a concrete slab in the eyes of artist Tom Bob. This extended form is to him, a French
fry just waiting to be realized. He changes this and other neglected pieces of
the urban landscape into colorful characters and objects much to the joy of
passers-by.
Tom Bob's
clever street art is all about seeing the possibilities in a space whether it's
a manhole cover, pipes, or a wall of hoses. Each of these mundane pieces has
the makings of something amazing. Tom Bob unlocks their inner potential
allowing us to recognize them for what they truly are: a pizza, a worm, and a
swashbuckling pirate.
The
artist's creations are centered on delight. “My goal is to transform street
objects into fun whimsical characters” Tom Bob said, “creating the emotion of
happiness and wonder.” This is obvious not only in the colors Tom Bob chooses
but also in the way he thinks. You can't help but be delighted by his vision
for a more playful and joyous world when you see how he recognized a blue pipe
(that matches the wall, supposed to be camouflaged) might form a wonderful
anteater snout.
