A group of
meerkats are called a “mob” or a “gang”. Each gang contains about 20 animals.
But, sometimes this number might reach high values as 50 too. Their lifespan is
around six to seven years in the wild. It can be increased when they live in
captivity.

In some
instances, the baby meerkats are taken care of “babysitters" - the female
adults who still haven't given birth to her offspring. These females carry the

ReplyDeleteWhat I needed in life today. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMeerkats do not make good pets for all the above mentioned reasons! They are very social animals and need their clan to learn everything they need to learn about life. It´s important for their health and well-being. When keps as a pet, not only their ability and need to dig into everything can be a problem. But the most important thing is: it is a wild animal and that is where it belongs: in the wild. When we truly LOVE animals, we do what is best for the animal, not what is best for us as humans. Keeping a wild animal is good for our ego - for nothing else. Even orphaned animals should be given to a rehabilitation facility where they can be re-introduced to another group of meerkats (e.g. orphans).
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable!
ReplyDeleteEncouraging wild animals as pets is never a good idea!
