update that has given supporters a reason to smile.
The Nicholson family, well known
to audiences through Springtime
on the Farm, revealed that one of their much-loved mares,
Sapphire, may be expecting a foal following an important veterinary
examination.
The hopeful news comes shortly
after the farm announced the devastating loss of Ruby, the beloved horse who
had to be euthanised after her health deteriorated. That announcement prompted
an outpouring of support from viewers, making the latest update especially
meaningful for fans who have followed the farm's journey.
Rob Nicholson appeared alongside
his brother Dave in a video shared on social media as they welcomed trusted
veterinarian Marco to carry out a 30-day pregnancy scan on Sapphire.
"We're in the presence of
greatness," Rob joked as filming began. "Both in the form of
Sapphire, my favourite mare, and Marco, my favourite vet."
With his trademark humour, Rob
also teased Dave, saying he wouldn't call him his favourite brother
"because that wouldn't be fair on Richard."
He went on to explain why the day
mattered so much.
"Thirty days ago, Sapphire
was inseminated, hopefully successfully, with semen that David collected and
transported," Rob said. "He's been our semen mule. Now we're hoping
all of that hard work has paid off and that we'll be welcoming a foal in
2027."
Dave remained optimistic
throughout the process, telling viewers he was "thinking positive,"
even as Sapphire playfully attempted to nip him while preparations were
underway.
Veterinarian Marco then explained
exactly how the examination would be carried out.
Before using the ultrasound
equipment, he performed a rectal examination to clear any material that might
interfere with the scan.
"Once everything is clear, we
can scan the uterus properly and see whether we have a pregnancy," he
explained.
A Challenging Year for the Farm
As everyone waited for the
results, Rob reflected on what has been a difficult period for the Nicholson
family and the animals they care for.
"It's been a challenging year
in many ways," he admitted.
"We've dealt with everything
surrounding Iris the foal, Ruby's health, and little Soldier. There have been
plenty of difficult moments, so today really means a lot to all of us."
Despite the setbacks, Rob said Sapphire continues to hold a special place in the family's hearts.
"She's not our youngest
mare," he explained, "but in my opinion she's our very best."
He praised Sapphire's bloodline,
temperament and her history as a mother, noting that previous foals such as
Yorkshire Rose have become treasured members of the farm.
"We've kept Yorkshire Rose,
and hopefully we'll be keeping Iris as well," Rob said. "We
absolutely love her breeding. She's stubborn, she's quick, but when it comes to
foaling she's incredibly caring. That's why this moment is so important."

After several tense minutes, Marco
finally looked up with the news everyone had been hoping to hear.
"She is pregnant," he
announced with a smile. "She is very pregnant."

wait around another 60 days before learning whether Sapphire is carrying a colt
