Elvis
Presley's fame extended far beyond his extraordinary musical talents and
captivating voice, captivating audiences worldwide.
He
also displayed expertise in culinary arts and fashion, as evidenced by his
iconic blue suede shoes.
Some
might not realize the rock star's prowess in design. Take, for instance, the
private jet of the renowned King of Rock.
In
1962, Elvis Presley bought a plane that he customized to his liking.
The
opulence of the space is evident in the carpet, mahogany paneling, and crimson
velvet chairs.
Elvis
didn't fly his Lockheed Jetstar model airplane until his death in 1977, even
though he had owned it for almost three decades. After his passing, it was
placed as a tourist attraction on a highway near Roswell, New Mexico, in the
United States.
On
the contrary, a telephone bidder, who professed to be an Elvis enthusiast,
recently acquired the plane for $260,000 at an auction in Florida.
More
than three decades after Elvis's tragic passing, the plane remains in the same
spot in New Mexico. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice a subtle red tint on
its exterior. Surprisingly, considering its age, the plane is still in
remarkably good condition.
Simply
put, I wouldn't mind a lengthy flight in this jet. Take a peek inside. I had a
clear idea of how the King of Rock would style it.
The
walls are adorned with wooden paneling, and the seats are draped in luxurious
crimson velvet.
The
seating seems to be of premium quality, and there is ample space for
passengers. Adjacent to the main area is a compact kitchenette.
For
instance, take the microwave. Considering its age, I highly doubt it's still
functional. Elvis famously prepared his signature sandwich, comprising peanut
butter, mayonnaise, crispy bacon, and a banana, by rising from his seat,
heading into the kitchen, and popping it into the microwave.
Currently,
the winning bid for the plane stands at $260,000. The auction took place on
January 8 at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction in Florida.
Anonymous
phone bids were placed by the new owner.
