If
you're planning to go on vacation and leaving food in the freezer, this article
is a must-read. Today, we're sharing a simple trick that will help you
determine if the food you left in the freezer is safe to consume.
At
times, when we're away from home, power outages occur without our knowledge.
Unfortunately, this can lead to the defrosting and spoilage of food stored in
the freezer.
A
woman has devised a clever trick to help us check if our refrigerators are
still functioning optimally – using just a single mug of water and a penny!
With this simple experiment, you'll never have to worry about finding spoiled
vegetables or fruits in your fridge again.
Sheila
Pulanco Russell came up with a brilliant idea: the fridge-mug experiment, using
plain tap water. It's a straightforward test – if the penny freezes, your
fridge is doing its job well, keeping your groceries properly chilled and
frozen. If it doesn't freeze, it might indicate that it's time to invest in a
new refrigerator to prevent food spoilage. Give it a try at home today!

In
a Facebook post which quickly received hundreds of thousands of
reactions and shares, Sheila explains how to proceed. She writes:
“For those of you that are evacuating
from the coast, I just heard a great tip. It’s called the one cup tip. You put
a cup of water in your freezer. Freeze it solid and then put a quarter on top
of it and leave it in your freezer. That way when you come back after you’ve
been evacuated you can tell if your food went completely bad and just refroze
or if it stayed frozen while you were gone.
If the quarter has fallen to the
bottom of the cup that means all the food defrosted and you should throw it
out. But if the quarter is either on the top or in the middle of the cup then
your food may still be ok. It would also be a great idea to leave this in your
freezer all the time and if you lose power for any reason you will have this
tip to fall back on.
If you don’t feel good about your food,
just throw it out. The main thing is for all to be safe. Please SHARE this on
your page. 😀”
Regardless,
if you're uncertain about the safety of food, it's best to discard it. Your
health is always the most important priority in life, and it should never be
compromised.
