Rare
footage of a little bird getting a complimentary lift on a bigger bird's stick
was captured by an untamed life photographic artist from Michigan.
Photographic
artist Jocelyn Anderson was as
of late capturing an osprey (AKA ocean sell) at a lake when the inquisitive
experience happened.
“I’m a wildlife photographer in
southeastern Michigan that is a big fan of birds,” Anderson adds. “I was
recently watching an osprey fly along the far border of a pool when I
discovered it had a follower, a red-winged blackbird”
Anderson
saw the smaller bird go on the offensive against the larger one as she kept her
lens fixed on the two birds.
“Red-winged
blackbirds are highly protective of their nests, attacking much larger birds to
protect their young,” the photographer explains. “As the duo soared closer, I
could see the blackbird spinning and calling at osprey, who was carrying a long
stick for nest improvements”
“At one
point, it appeared as if the Blackbird had landed on the huge stick taking a
break from all of its moves. I was startled by how far the blackbird followed
the osprey away from its initial nesting spot – perhaps it was taking advantage
of the free ride!”
Maybe
this was the beginnings of another bird ridesharing administration, or perhaps
the birds were giving a valiant effort to reenact a scene from the film Kiki's
Delivery Service:
In Studio
Ghibli's Kiki's Delivery Service, the young witch Kiki rides her broom with her
cat Jiji.
Photographing
wildlife requires a combination of ability, knowledge, planning, and luck. An
osprey carrying a shark carrying a fish was taken by a Florida wildlife photographer
in 2018.
“I try to
get out as often as I can to take pictures; you never know what will happen on
that day,” a 2018 interview with GlaszArt, Anderson
said, “I’m always looking to learn more about nature as I find my photos
improve the more I learn about my subject.”
Anderson's
art may be seen on her website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
