8-Year-Old Yemeni Girl Dies At Hands Of The Weird 40-Year-Old Husband On The Wedding Night

Recently, an eight year-old girl passed away due to the internal injuries that occured because of a sexual trauma. Human rights organizations have already called her husband for the arrest. The age gap between both husband and five was almost 32 years.

The death was reported from Al Nahar, Lebanon, in the tribal area that is called Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia. This particular incident brings more attention to the issue of marriages under age in the Middle East.

“The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) suggested that more than 140 million girls had become child brides between 2011 and 2020. And also they state that 50 million of this group will be under the age of 15.”

According to the news reports, more than a quarter of young girls in Yemen are forced to marry before the age of 15. It’s not only the childhood that they’ll miss, but also education and access to health. These child brides often experience emotional, physical and sexual harassment.

One of the main reasons for underage marriages, especially marriages of kids, is the inability to define the word “child”. Actually, this is an international problem that must be discussed worldwide. Only a little protection is provided for those who are affected by this. The issue leaves a number of interpretations inside the countries.

HRC that published the 54-pg report, “How Come You Allow Little Girls to Get Married?” is among the top priority groups that pay attention to this issue. The 54 page report that was made by the HRC, documented the damages to the life of girls who experience forced marriages. More than ¾ th of the organizations agree 18 as the legal age level that is suitable for marriage.

However, Yemen was successful in setting up a minimum age level for a marriage as 17 in February 2009. But, unfortunately, this was repealed after more conservative lawmakers named un-Islamic
